UK supports the Assembly of Kosovo in establishing a Commission on Financial Control (13/10/2009)

KIPRED Project

Roundtable on “Parliamentary Oversight of Public Finance in Kosovo”

On October 8th 2009, Kosovo Institute for Policy Research and Development (KIPRED), funded from the UK’s Strategic Programme Fund, organised a Roundtable as part of the project on the “Oversight of Public Finances in Kosovo”. Present in the Round table were HMA Andy Sparkes, Speaker of the Assembly HE Jakup Krasniqi, Minister of Finance and Economy HE Ahmet Shala, Members of the Assembly of Kosovo, Officials of the Government of Kosovo and Representatives of Kosovo’s Civil Society.

Aim of the Roundtable was to present the current map and discuss the main institutions conducting oversight of public spending by budget organisations of the Government of Kosovo and their practices as well as relations between them. The new Committee for Oversight of Public Finance is an institution of dual importance for Kosovo: first, it will hold the government accountable for the spending from the KCB and establish grounds for good governance; and second, good oversight of public expenditure will contribute to the process of EU integration, which Kosovo aspires.
