The Visit of Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, Princess Anne to Kosovo (05/02/2009)
The British Embassy was delighted to host a visit from Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, Princess Anne from 4 - 6 February 2009. It was the first visit by a member of the Royal family to Kosovo since its declaration of independence on 17th of February 2008. The visit underscored the UK’s continuing support for Kosovo’s efforts to achieve a stable, prosperous and multi-ethnic future within the European family.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness met President Sejdiu and Prime Minister Thaçi. In her role as Patron of Save the Children, HRH visited a local project run by the organisation at a pre-school for children with special needs in Gjilan. HRH also attended Dobrotin school where she met civil society representatives, school staff and children. The visit also included a meeting with the Kosovo Olympic Committee representatives to discussKosovo’s aspiration to compete in the London Olympics in 2012. HRH also met UK secondees working in EULEX and the ICO. In addition, HRH called on British troops stationed in Pristina under KFOR command.
